How to create custom sized video templates in Canva
Ever wanted to create an animation or video with a specific size in mind, but felt limited by Canva's default options? You're not alone!
A recent question popped up in my Animation Academy Facebook group that many of you might relate to:
"I'm trying to create an animation with a custom size of 1125px by 1500px, but I don't have all the transitions and stuff at the bottom for animations. Any ideas on what I can do? Is there a workaround? I need my video to be those dimensions and hoping that I can still create animations with this custom size and have access to all the tools you're sharing in the tutorial."
This is a great question, and the good news is there's a simple solution! You can absolutely create animations in Canva with custom sizes and still have access to all the fantastic animation features.
The Secret Weapon: Turning Templates into Video Templates
While Canva doesn't currently offer animation functionalities for custom sizes directly, there's a nifty hack you can use: transform any existing Canva template into a video template! This clever trick unlocks complete control over the size of your canvas and grants you access to all the animation tools you crave.
Here's how it works (it's surprisingly easy!):
Find a Canva template you like (or create your own design!).
Open the template and customise it to your liking. Remember, each page of the template will become a slide in your final animation.
Look for the "Duration" button at the bottom of the editor interface. It might be hidden under a small arrow, depending on your screen size.
Click the "Duration" button. This magical step transforms each page of your design into a video slide! Now you'll see individual timing controls for each slide.
Now the magic happens! With your custom-sized video slides in place, you can now utilise all the animation tools and functionalities found at the bottom of the editor. Add transitions, animate elements, and bring your animation to life!
